Delivery of a modern sports facility that reflects the dynamics of the 21st century.
The scheme proposals included a contemporary new Sports Pavilion, with changing facilities and function space, a 3G Hockey pitch and tennis courts.
Situated within the Cardiff Road Conservation Area of Llandaff, the scale, proportions and position of the two-storey clubhouse, and the provision of the 3G pitches and associated infrastructure, were carefully considered to reduce the visual impact of the development to the wider area. The design also considered using minimal footprint on the existing green space that is used for sport.
GJP secured planning approval on appeal, following an Informal Hearing, with the Inspector finding that the proposal were acceptable in the sensitive heritage setting, not least its impact in the Conversation Area, and the setting of, and views towards, the Grade I listed school.
